The powerful High Performance Corer (HPCTM) is capable of penetrating more dense/hard
soils than the standard Zenkovitch vibrocorer. It is capable of obtaining
cores of 3m, 4m, and 6m long cores (8m cores can be provided on request).
The HPC is currently limited to working in water depths of 325m. The HPC comes with a
Penetrometer which measures, online, the rate of penetration of the barrel into the soil
against time. This type of corer is used by the dredging industry for sand search projects,
by the aggregate industry for resource evaluation and investigation and pipeline
route surveys in areas of potentially dense/hard soils such as the Southern
North Sea and Irish Sea.
Gravity corers are deployed in areas where the seabed is likely to be weak or soft.
The gravity corers are supplied with barrels of 3m, 4m and 6m in length. Longer barrels
can be supplied on request. The gravity corer can either be deployed from a ship's crane
or A-frame. Where these facilities are not available on the vessel we can provide the Abrams
Corer deployment system. The Abrams Corer System is a self-contained deployment
system which includes a small A-frame and corer retrieval chute. This system allows for
a safe deployment and recovery of the gravity corer.
Hydraulic Grabs and Van-Veen grabs are available for hire please refer to the datasheets
for more information on the specifications of this equipment.
